I just hope Squenix also considers giving the PC port of Automata the same treatment as Ys VIII and Garou, because from what I’ve heard, it’s embarrassingly bad, which is particularly tragic given how well Platinum’s ports of the original Bayonetta and Vanquish (among others) turned out. And despite things grinding to a halt in March, Square Enix announced last Saturday that an upgraded version of the original NieR, rechristened as NieR Replicant ver.1.22464487139… will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC via Steam in the near future. Driller DrillLand remaster, which like the Katamari Damacy remaster before it, will be exclusive to Switch and PC. XSEED Games and Marvelous also brought the former Switch exclusive DAEMON X MACHINA to Steam, there was a crowdfunding project to remaster PlatinumGames’ The Wonderful 101 to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam and Bandai Namco finally announced the existence of a Mr.

And while the SamSho news has definitely soured me on them as of late, SNK also managed to update their PC version of Garou: Mark of the Wolves to match the superior console versions and even added rollback netplay to boot.

The day after my birthday, Nippon Ichi Software America managed a Falcom-flavored one-two punch of goodness: not only did they officially confirm that The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III would be coming to PC – with porting duties handled by PH3 Games, the porting studio set up by Peter “Durante” Thoman, a legitimate legend in the field of PC ports – but they also hired them to fix their PC port of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana once and for all. Of course, given the current pandemic, gaming news in general has slowed down recently, but I still have enough material to compile into a paragraph this time. Yes, the future of PC gaming is at risk as Tim Sweeney plans to kill off all competition and leave it a barren wasteland.īut not all of the news to come out in that time has been quite as bleak. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, Epic Games also announced that they would be entering the publishing field, handling upcoming titles from Remedy Entertainment, gen DESIGN and Playdead and threatening to lock in several more developers in the future. A few brave souls have pointed out to me that it’s possible that Epic “leaked” the announcement themselves and that could mean that it could be a multi-platform release, but considering the fact that SNK’s social media manager and the official SamSho Twitter accounts both retweeted this announcement, I don’t like the odds of that. Despite SNK openly flaunting how they’d rebuffed Epic’s advances in the past, it seems all but assured that it will be an EGS-exclusive. First, they announced a slate of upcoming titles set to release this Spring and among those releases was my long-awaited Samurai Shodown. A one-two punch that has left me staggered, punch-drunk and demoralized. After maintaining radio silence for quite some time, the Epic Games Store came back with a major assault on consumer advocates everywhere. Those cruel jokes where the laughs are had at the expense of the fans.Īs I’m about to recap the various PC port-related announcements and events that took place since my last article at the start of December, I feel that it’s best to tear off the bandage.

You know, when companies announce something that people actually want, but surprise! It was just a clever ruse. But even in its cruel inception, it never matched the kind of April Fools’ joke I absolutely despise.

Funny how this originally started out as a far more malicious idea – poking fun at console gamers who feel that a game losing its exclusivity status makes it inherently worthless. That’s the major reason why I’ve kept this one up for five years: there are games currently exclusive to PC that I enjoy, and I’d like them to be shared with a wider audience. I always kind of liked April Fools’ day when the person making the joke and any and all potential saps can enjoy it on the same level. Another April Fools’ Day rolls around and it’s time for another PC-to-console ports wishlist.
